Serious Fun - Doug Osborne on Guitars and Vocals, Stephen Wild on Bass and Vocals, and Liz DeSessa on Drums, tore up the clubs in Boston in the early '80s. The Paradise, The Rat, The Channel, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Bunrattys...all of the clubs from that classic period in Boston Rock.
By saving all proceeds from playing live, Serious Fun saved their money for recording. They enlisted the aid of Andy Mendelson (Andy Pratt, etc.) and recorded seven songs at Baker Street Studios in Watertown, MA. Doug and Andy mixed three songs from the 8-Track 1" multitracks to 2-Track 1/4" - Pasted On Pout, Arrest My Heart, and this one, Cambridge Nights.
Pasted On Pout and Arrest My Heart were released on Varulven Records' Boston Rock and Roll Anthology #4, to great success. This mix of Cambridge Nights has never before been released or heard! Remastered versions of POP and AMH will be released as singles after this, and these three will only be available as download and streaming singles. This will be followed by the release of the full Serious Fun EP, songs finished, newly remixed and mastered.
lyrics
Cambridge Nights - Words and Music by Douglas Osborne
Davy’s never known
and he doesn’t want to
that he’s never had it bad
like the ladies selling something so sweet
He’s rarely tasted
though more often he’d like to
the good that he’s never had
like the hot chocolate at the Cafe Pamplona
Some of these Cambridge Nights
could flash in his face
could see his disgrace
Even parking cars under downtown lights
might not pull him up from this place
Betty’s never done it
though she says she knows how to
She can drive a fellow mad
with all of her daddy’s presents and her nose job
Davy’s had it all before
he says it’s all because he had to
He says he’s really oh so sad…
Some of these Cambridge Nights…
